Noise reduction is handled by Lightspeed’s award-winning ANR system, with magnesium ear cups that attenuate high-frequency noise the electronics don’t address. The cup cavity is 50% larger than the previous generation, so the entire ear sits inside rather than under pressure from the seal edge — the usual source of hot spots on long flights. Tapered performance ear seals and a low-profile stainless steel headband distribute weight and side pressure across the curve of the head.
On the comms side, the Dual Aperture Disc microphone with user-adjustable gain keeps transmissions intelligible in multi-headset cockpits. Front Row Center stereo cross-feed widens the audio image for music playback. Bluetooth handles phone calls and streaming, with ComPriority automatically ducking auxiliary audio during radio traffic and Auto Shutoff conserving batteries when the headset is idle.

Yes, if the price gap matters to you. Both share the same ANR platform, magnesium-and-steel construction, Dual Aperture Disc microphone, and 7-year warranty. Zulu 4 adds Dual Bluetooth, FrameFit ear seals, and improved outgoing call audio. If you don’t fly with glasses or a cap and don’t take business calls airborne, Zulu 3 delivers most of the experience for less.
What batteries does it use and how long do they last?
Two AA batteries, included. AA power means you can restock anywhere — no proprietary cartridge and no charging before a flight. Auto Shutoff powers the headset down when it’s not in use to extend battery life.
Will it fit comfortably if I wear glasses?
Zulu 3’s tapered performance ear seals and larger cup cavity accommodate glasses better than most headsets in the class. That said, if the glasses seal is your main concern, Zulu 4’s FrameFit seals were engineered specifically for that problem and are the better choice.
What’s Front Row Center?
It’s Lightspeed’s stereo cross-feed system. It blends a portion of each channel into the opposite ear, which widens the sound stage for music and makes stereo playback sound less like it’s isolated inside each cup. It has no effect on radio communications.
