The Lightspeed Delta Zulu is an active noise reduction headset for general aviation pilots who want more from a headset than communications. It sits at the top of the Zulu family and is aimed at owner-pilots, flight instructors, and anyone flying piston aircraft where cabin air quality and hearing protection both matter.
The headset carries a built-in carbon monoxide sensor — Lightspeed’s Kanari alert system — that monitors cabin CO continuously and issues audible warnings at factory or user-set thresholds, with live readouts and flight history in the Lightspeed app. HearingEQity runs a 12-frequency hearing test in the app and tunes each ear cup to your own hearing profile, so radio calls stay intelligible even with asymmetric hearing loss. Multiple profiles can be saved and swapped between users.
Construction is stainless steel and magnesium with Kevlar-cored cables. Weight is 14.9 oz including ear seals, head pad, and mic boom. Power comes from a swappable cartridge — lithium-ion or AA — and the UAC plug allows in-flight USB charging, auxiliary audio, and data over a single connector. Bluetooth with A2DP handles phone calls, music, and app alerts, with ComPriority ducking auxiliary audio automatically during radio traffic.
Available in Dual GA, LEMO panel power, and U-174 configurations. Backed by Lightspeed’s 7-year limited warranty.
FAQ
What does the carbon monoxide sensor actually do?
It samples cabin air continuously while the headset is powered and sounds an audible alert in your ears when CO crosses a preset or user-defined threshold. The Lightspeed app shows a live ppm readout in flight and stores a per-flight history you can review afterward. It’s a real electrochemical sensor, not a color-change spot card.
Which configuration do I need — Dual GA, LEMO, or U-174?
Dual GA (twin plugs) fits the majority of piston GA aircraft. LEMO is the six-pin panel-powered jack found in many newer Cirrus, Cessna, and Diamond aircraft and in retrofit installations. U-174 is the single military-style plug used in most helicopters. If you’re unsure, tell us the aircraft make, model, and year and we’ll confirm before shipping.
How is this different from a Zulu 3 or Zulu 4?
Zulu 3 and Zulu 4 are ANR headsets with excellent noise reduction and comfort. Delta Zulu adds the CO sensor, HearingEQity hearing personalization, the swappable battery cartridge, and the UAC connector on top of that. If you only need quiet and clear comms, a Zulu 4 does that; Delta Zulu is for pilots who want the safety and personalization layer as well.
What’s in the box?
Carrying case, lithium-ion battery cartridge, AA battery cartridge, single-port wall charger, UAC-to-USB-A cable, cord shirt clip, and a set of icon chips for identifying headsets in a multi-headset cockpit. USB-C, 3.5 mm, and Lightning cables are available separately.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International orders ship directly from our Orlando facility, insured at declared value. Import duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees are the responsibility of the consignee.
