The Lightspeed A139 wind screen, also called a mic muff, is the foam cover that fits over the microphone element on Lightspeed headsets. It fits current Zulu series, Sierra, Tango, and PFX models.

The mic muff is not optional equipment. All Lightspeed headset microphones are calibrated for use with a wind screen fitted, so flying without one changes how the mic responds — outgoing transmissions pick up cabin noise, breath, and wind that the calibration assumes the foam will absorb. A missing or degraded muff is one of the most common causes of “you’re breaking up” calls on an otherwise healthy headset.

Foam is a consumable. It compresses, yellows, and eventually crumbles with handling and time. Lightspeed recommends replacing headset soft goods — ear seals, head pads, and mic muffs — every 18 months to maintain peak ANR performance and comfort. Soft goods are wear items and are not covered by the Lightspeed warranty; they’re designed to be replaced in the field by the owner.

This is a genuine Lightspeed part. Installation takes seconds: slide the old muff off the mic boom and slide the new one on.
