The Lightspeed Refresher Kit A134 restores the soft goods on Sierra and Tango headsets. It contains Lightspeed’s Performance Ear Seals, a Sierra/Tango head pad, and two wind screens (mic muffs).
Ear seals are a wear item, and worn seals cost you more than comfort. ANR systems are designed around a sealed cavity; once the foam compresses or the covering cracks, the seal against your head degrades and the headset’s noise reduction drops with it. Lightspeed recommends replacing headset soft goods — ear seals, head pads, and mic muffs — every 18 months to maintain peak ANR performance and comfort.
The Performance Ear Seals fit all current Lightspeed models including the Zulu series, Sierra, and Tango, as well as the PFX, and are shaped to follow the curve of the jaw for a more natural fit and better stability. The head pad in this kit is the standard pad supplied with Sierra and Tango wireless headsets. The wind screens fit current Zulu series, Sierra, Tango, and PFX models — and note that all Lightspeed headset microphones are calibrated to be used with a wind screen fitted, so flying without one degrades transmit audio.
Installation requires no tools: pull the old ear seals and head pad off with a gentle tug, then click the new ones into place.
FAQ
How do I know when my ear seals need replacing?
Lightspeed’s recommended interval is every 18 months. Before that, watch for visible cracking or flaking of the covering, foam that no longer springs back after being compressed, or a noticeable drop in how quiet the headset is at the same power setting. Deterioration is gradual, so most pilots don’t notice until they fit new seals and hear the difference.
Will this kit fit my Zulu?
The ear seals and wind screens will, but the head pad won’t — the pad in this kit is the Sierra/Tango version. Zulu series and PFX headsets take the Zulu/PFX head pad, so order the Zulu refresher kit for those models instead.
Is it hard to install?
No. The ear seals and head pad pull off with a gentle tug and the replacements click into place — no tools, no disassembly, a couple of minutes total.
Why does the kit include two wind screens?
Mic muffs are the most easily lost component on a headset — they come off in a flight bag and disappear. The second one is a spare. Since Lightspeed calibrates its microphones for use with a wind screen, having a backup means you’re never flying without one.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International orders ship directly from our Orlando facility, insured at declared value. Import duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees are the responsibility of the consignee.
