The Lightspeed A131 Refresher Kit restores the soft goods on Zulu series headsets. It contains a pair of Lightspeed Performance Ear Seals, a Zulu Series/PFX head pad, and two wind screens (mic muffs).
Soft goods are the components that decide how your headset performs. ANR works against a sealed acoustic cavity, and once the ear seal foam compresses or the covering cracks, that seal breaks down and noise reduction drops with it. The decline is gradual enough that most pilots blame the electronics long before they suspect the cushions. A quick check: if you can draw air through the seal surface, it’s finished regardless of how it looks. The same applies to the microphone — all Lightspeed mics are calibrated for use with a wind screen fitted, so a missing or crumbling muff degrades your transmit audio.
Lightspeed recommends replacing headset soft goods every 18 months to maintain peak ANR performance and comfort. These are wear items excluded from the headset warranty by design, intended for owner replacement in the field.
Installation requires no tools. Give the old ear seals and head pad a gentle tug to release them, click the new ones into place, and slide the fresh mic muff onto the boom.

How do I know my headset needs this?
The clearest sign is that it isn’t as quiet as it used to be at the same power setting. Also check the ear seals for cracking, flaking, or foam that stays compressed instead of springing back. If air passes through the seal surface when you try to draw breath through it, the seal is done. Lightspeed’s recommended interval is every 18 months regardless of appearance.
Which Zulu models does this fit?
The Zulu series and PFX. The head pad is the standard-size Zulu/PFX pad, which is what makes this kit specific to those models — a Sierra or Tango takes a different pad and needs kit A134 instead.
Will this work on a Zulu 4?
The head pad and mic muffs will, but Zulu 4 ships with FrameFit ear seals rather than the Performance seals in this kit. Contact us with your model before ordering and we’ll confirm the right kit for your headset.
Is it hard to install?
No. Ear seals and head pad pull off and click back on with no tools or disassembly — a couple of minutes total. The mic muff slides on and off the boom.
Are these parts covered by my headset warranty?
No. Ear seals, head pads, and mic muffs are wear-and-tear consumables excluded from the Lightspeed warranty by design, which is why they’re sold as user-replaceable spares.
